A lawn that thins out in patches or a bed that puddles for a day after rain is rarely a seed or plant problem first. In the greater Rockford area the soil underneath is heavy clay, and clay compacts and sheds water sideways instead of letting it soak through. Grass planted straight onto that without a real finish grade struggles from the first season, and beds set at the wrong grade collect water around the roots instead of draining past them.
That is why A & T starts a softscape job the same way it starts a hardscape one, by working out where the water is going before anything is planted. How the work runs, from design to a finished lawn
We offer computer landscape design to help you, the customer, be a part of designing your own landscape. With the professional experience of our design team and ideas from our clients, we transform your landscape dreams into reality, and this is also where grade and drainage get settled, not left as an afterthought once planting starts.
From there it is finish grade, then seed or sod, then the planting itself, with tropical palm trees available as part of that plan for a customer who wants them. Ongoing maintenance follows the calendar rather than a single visit: mowing through the growing season, mulch and bed care, trimming and pruning to keep shape, and spring and fall cleanup to close out and reopen the yard each year.

What a first season looks like, and staying ahead of it
A newly sodded or seeded lawn in Rockford needs steady attention through its first season while roots establish into that clay base, which is why maintenance is treated as part of the same job rather than something to figure out later. A bed planted at the right grade drains the way it should from week one instead of needing to be dug up and corrected.
